Actor says he chooses work over online noise amid criticism

January 21, 2026: Actor Varun Dhawan has reacted to the wave of online criticism following the release of Ghar Kab Aaoge, a song from his upcoming film Border 2. The actor has been widely trolled on social media, with memes and comments targeting his smiling expressions in the song and questioning his acting skills. Addressing the backlash at a recent media interaction, Varun chose a calm and measured tone, avoiding direct engagement with the negativity circulating online.

In a video now doing the rounds on Reddit, Varun spoke about how he deals with online criticism. Emphasising his focus on work, he said actors should “shut out the noise” and let their performances speak for themselves. He expressed confidence in Border 2, stating that the film’s true worth would be known after release, and stressed that his priority remains making a good film rather than responding to social media reactions or box office speculation.

Meanwhile, Border 2 is showing strong momentum ahead of its release. Advance bookings opened on Monday and, according to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film has already collected Rs 3.29 crore excluding block seats, with over one lakh tickets sold across more than 9,000 shows. Including block seats, the figure rises to nearly Rs 6.53 crore. The film is performing particularly well in regions like Delhi-NCR and Mumbai, indicating solid audience interest ahead of the Republic Day weekend release.
