The highly anticipated Vicky Kaushal-starrer Chhaava, set to release on February 14, has already captured fans’ attention with its promotional videos. Directed by Laxman Utekar, the film narrates the story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the Maratha warrior king who succeeded Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

During a recent interaction, director Laxman Utekar revealed the extent of Vicky’s dedication to the role. While shooting a torture scene, Vicky agreed to stay tied up all night to capture the intensity of the moment authentically. The actor’s commitment left him injured, forcing the production to halt for one and a half months.

Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Utekar shared a striking coincidence: the torture scene was filmed on the same day Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was historically tortured. “During the first day of shooting, we realized the date coincided with the actual event. It was a surreal moment for the entire team,” he said.

The consequences of the scene were significant. “After being tied up all night, Vicky’s hands refused to come down when the ropes were removed—they were blocked. We had to take a one-and-a-half-month break for him to recover. During this time, the set had to be dismantled and later rebuilt to resume shooting,” Utekar explained.

A Professional Approach on Set

The film also features Akshaye Khanna as Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. Vicky revealed that their dynamic on set was entirely professional, reflecting the gravity of their roles. “There were no greetings exchanged. He was Aurangzeb, and I was Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. We went straight into character without any interaction as Vicky or Akshaye,” Vicky recalled.

Chhaava promises to be an epic retelling of history, with both actors fully immersing themselves in their roles to deliver an authentic and powerful cinematic experience.
