Video: Car Rams Into Liverpool Fans- 27 Receive Serious Injuries: Was it a Terrorist Act?

Incident in Liverpool injures children and adults during Premier League title celebrations; suspect arrested, no terrorism link

May 27, 2025: A day of celebration turned to horror in Liverpool on Monday when a car ploughed into a crowd of jubilant football fans during the city’s Premier League victory parade. The crash left 27 people hospitalized, including four children, with one child and one adult in serious condition.

The driver, identified by police as a 53-year-old white British man from Liverpool, has been arrested. Police have quickly ruled out terrorism, describing the incident as “isolated.” Four people who were trapped under the vehicle were rescued by firefighters.

Social media videos captured the terrifying moment when the car slammed into spectators, sending some flying into the air. As the vehicle stopped, angry fans smashed its windows until police intervened to protect the driver.

“We are not currently looking for anyone else in relation to it,” said temporary Deputy Chief Constable Jenny Sims, emphasizing that there was no indication of a terror link.

The collision occurred about 10 minutes after Liverpool FC’s team bus had passed through the packed streets, as hundreds of thousands gathered to celebrate. Eyewitnesses said that only the crowd’s screams gave them time to react and avoid the speeding car.

The incident cast a dark shadow over what had been a jubilant day. “My thoughts are with all those injured or affected,” Prime Minister Keir Starmer said, calling the scenes “appalling.” Liverpool FC also extended thoughts and prayers to those affected and confirmed it was in direct contact with police.

In the aftermath, a Reuters photographer saw emergency workers rushing victims on stretchers and debris littering the streets. An eyewitness named Chelsea described how the screams of the crowd were the only warning before the vehicle crashed through.

Monday’s celebrations marked the first time Liverpool fans could gather openly for a Premier League victory parade, as the team’s previous title win came during the COVID pandemic.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the area, following a deadly attack in nearby Southport last year that led to riots and speculation online. Police moved swiftly this time to provide information to calm fears.

Despite the day’s tragic turn, Liverpool’s leader, Liam Robinson, said the community would support those impacted and ensure safety at future events.
