Viral Video Exposes Harsh Job Reality in Canada: Dozens Queue for Just 5 Openings

An Indian woman’s candid Instagram video highlights the intense job competition faced by international students in Canada, countering the dream of effortless employment abroad.

Toronto | June 28, 2025 – A video posted by an Indian woman living in Canada has gone viral, offering a stark glimpse into the country’s growing unemployment crisis. The clip, filmed outside a modest job fair, shows dozens of job seekers – many of them international students – standing in a long queue for just five to six internship positions.

The caption of the video reads:
“Life abroad isn’t always a dream. Sometimes it’s just… a long queue.”

The woman explains that the job fair is offering basic internship roles, and the overwhelming number of applicants reflects the rising competition for even entry-level positions. “This is the reality of Canada,” she says bluntly. “If you’re prepared for this, then come. Otherwise, India is better.”

Mixed Reactions Online

The video sparked a debate on social media. Many lauded the woman for breaking the illusion of easy prosperity abroad.
“First honest video I saw of letting people know the truth,” one user commented. “Other influencers are giving people false hope.”

Another shared: “Same situation here in Toronto. Even for survival jobs, it’s a long wait.” A third echoed: “Everyone thinks it’s a land of opportunity—until they see the reality.”

However, others offered a different perspective, arguing that the issue stems more from skill mismatch than job scarcity.
“Vancouver has jobs. The issue is not a lack of opportunity but lack of relevant skills,” a user pointed out, citing companies like Microsoft, Amazon, BC Hydro, and Lululemon as actively hiring.

Another wrote: “Only entry-level jobs have this kind of competition. Once you gain experience, you’re valued.”

Despite the mixed views, the video resonates with many immigrants and aspirants, highlighting a critical gap between expectations and reality in foreign job markets.
