Singh, who had held the Burnaby seat since 2019, finished third this election following a redistribution of the riding boundaries, changing it from Burnaby South to Burnaby Central.

Key Highlights:

  • Loss of Seat and Party Status:
Singh’s NDP is projected to win just 7 seats, falling short of the 12 required to maintain official party status in the House of Commons.
  • Reflections on Sacrifice:
“Choosing a life in politics means accepting sacrifice,” Singh said, holding back tears. “But we do it because of the chance to change the country we love for the better.”
  • Gratitude to Family:
Singh credited his family for their unwavering support, stating, “You cannot do this work without great people and a great family behind you.”

The defeat marks a stunning fall for Singh and the NDP, once seen as key players in Canadian politics. His emotional farewell highlighted both the personal and political toll of a campaign season that ended in disappointment.
