Virat Kohli Climbs To Fifth Spot In ICC Men's Player Rankings After 51st ODI Century
February 26, 2025: India’s stalwart batter, Virat Kohli, has made a significant jump in the latest ICC Men’s Player Rankings after his remarkable 51st ODI century during the Champions Trophy clash against Pakistan in Dubai. Kohli’s outstanding performance saw him gain one place in the rankings, propelling him back into the fifth spot among ODI batters.
The latest ICC rankings, released on Wednesday, reveal that Kohli’s rise comes at a time when three Indian batters are currently within the top five. Shubman Gill continues to lead the rankings in first place, while skipper Rohit Sharma maintains his position in third. Despite a lean trot from Pakistan’s former captain Babar Azam, he holds onto second place in the rankings.
Kohli’s impressive knock was the only highlight for a batter inside the top 10 to make any substantial progress in the rankings, although there were notable performances from other players on the fringes of the top 10. Will Young (up eight spots to 14th), Ben Duckett (up 27 places to 17th), and Rachin Ravindra (up 18 places to 24th) were among the biggest movers in the rankings after scoring centuries at the Champions Trophy.
KL Rahul of India also saw a slight climb, moving up two spots to 15th. South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen gained three places, securing the 16th spot.
In the ODI bowler’s rankings, Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana remained at the top, despite Sri Lanka not being in the Champions Trophy, with Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan still in second. South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj (up to 4th), New Zealand’s Matt Henry (up to 6th), and Australia’s Adam Zampa (up to 10th) made progress within the top 10.
The all-rounder’s rankings also saw movement, with New Zealand’s Michael Bracewell making a significant jump to 26th place following a four-wicket haul in the Champions Trophy match against Bangladesh. His teammate Rachin Ravindra also climbed six spots to 15th in the all-rounder rankings.
The update on the ICC Men’s Player Rankings reflects the dynamic performances in the ongoing Champions Trophy and highlights the players who are making their mark with both bat and ball.
