“Virat Kohli Was Crying”: Anushka Sharma Anecdote Shared by Varun Dhawan

Actor Varun Dhawan shares a heartfelt anecdote from Anushka Sharma about Virat Kohli’s intense dedication and emotional struggles during his captaincy.

December 21, 2024: Virat Kohli, widely regarded as one of India’s most successful Test captains, led the team to 40 wins in 68 matches, making history with his leadership. However, his journey as captain was far from smooth. Among the toughest moments of his tenure was India’s 1-4 Test series loss to England in 2018, despite Kohli’s exceptional individual performance with the bat.

Actor Varun Dhawan recently recounted a touching anecdote shared by Kohli’s wife, actor Anushka Sharma, shedding light on Kohli’s mindset during that challenging period.

Speaking on The Ranveer Show, Dhawan revealed, “Anushka told me about the times when Virat wasn’t in good form. After India lost a Test, she came back to their room and found him really down, literally crying. He blamed himself entirely for the team’s loss, saying, ‘I failed.’”

Even in the face of defeat, Kohli stood out as the top run-scorer of the 2018 England series, amassing 593 runs, including two centuries and three fifties. Yet, his deep sense of responsibility and unwavering passion for the game often weighed heavily on him during losses.

A Decline in Form

Since 2018, Kohli’s performance with the bat has dipped significantly. In 2024, he managed just 376 runs in 17 Test innings, with one fifty and one century, averaging a mere 25—a stark contrast to his earlier dominance.

Redemption on the Horizon

Kohli will have one last opportunity to redeem his Test record in 2024 during the Boxing Day Test against Australia on December 26 in Melbourne. The match is pivotal, as it will not only decide the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, currently tied at 1-1, but also play a crucial role in determining India’s fate in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final.

As Kohli prepares for this decisive Test, fans hope to see the legendary batter channel his passion and deliver a performance befitting his stature in Indian cricket.
