Watch: Imam-ul-Haq Hit On Jaw By Fielder's Throw, Taken Off The Field In Ambulance
April 5, 2025: Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq was taken off the field in the third and final ODI against New Zealand at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui, after suffering a painful blow to his jaw from a fielder’s throw at the non-striker’s end. The incident occurred during the third over of Pakistan’s chase in a rain-curtailed match.
Imam had just played a delivery from William O’Rourke towards the off-side and rushed to take a single. However, the throw from the fielder hit Imam’s helmet directly on his jaw. The pain was evident, as Imam immediately took off his helmet, removed the ball, and clutched his jaw. He was attended to by the medical staff on the field and, after further examination, was taken off the field via ambulance for additional treatment.
Before the incident, Imam had faced seven deliveries and scored just one run. His unfortunate departure meant that Pakistan had to make a change, and Usman Khan was brought in as a concussion substitute in his place.
This injury occurred after a similar incident in the previous game, where pacer Haris Rauf had been struck on the helmet, and Naseem Shah replaced him as a concussion substitute, going on to score a crucial half-century in the chase.
Meanwhile, in the match, Pakistan’s captain Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and opted to bowl. Pakistan’s bowlers showed good discipline, with Naseem Shah replacing Rauf and taking a key wicket. Young pacer Akif Javed also contributed with the ball, dismissing Henry Nicholls and several other key New Zealand batters.
New Zealand’s Rhys Mariu impressed with his maiden ODI century, while Michael Bracewell’s half-century helped the Kiwis post 264/8 in their 42 overs. Javed finished with impressive figures, taking multiple wickets, including the final one in the innings.
As Pakistan looked to chase the total, the loss of Imam added more pressure to their already difficult task.
