After the first day of the Chennai Test between India and Bangladesh, Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud expressed optimism about restricting India to a total under 400.
Leading his team’s bowling attack, Mahmud took 4 wickets for 58 runs, putting India under early pressure by dismissing key players like Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli.
In his post-day press conference, Mahmud highlighted the importance of bowling India out early on day two, given the favorable batting conditions. Despite India’s recovery through a strong partnership between Ravindra Jadeja (86) and Ravichandran Ashwin (100), Mahmud remained hopeful about Bangladesh’s chances of a comeback if they could break this partnership quickly.
He also acknowledged that Bangladesh’s bowling attack could have been more disciplined but emphasized their strategy of trying to put pressure back on India by hitting the right areas.
India finished the day at 339/6, with Mahmud playing a crucial role in reducing them to 144/6 earlier in the innings before the lower order’s resilience.
