“We Should Worry Less About Putin”: Trump Defends Ukraine Stance Amid European Support for Zelenskyy

US President Calls for Focus on Domestic Issues as Europe Rallies Behind Ukraine

Washington, DC, March 3: US President Donald Trump pushed back against criticism that his stance on Ukraine is too lenient towards Russian President Vladimir Putin, arguing that the US should prioritize domestic issues over foreign conflicts.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote:

“We should spend less time worrying about Putin, and more time worrying about migrant rape gangs, drug lords, murderers, and people from mental institutions entering our Country—so that we don’t end up like Europe!”

Trump’s remarks follow a heated exchange with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House, where talks over a US-Ukraine minerals deal collapsed. While the US response to Ukraine remains uncertain, European leaders have doubled down on their support for the war-torn country.

European Leaders Stand Firm With Ukraine

Following his tense Washington visit, Zelenskyy traveled to London for a European leaders’ summit, where UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer reaffirmed support for Ukraine.

Speaking to reporters, Starmer revealed that the UK and France—along with a select group of European nations—were working on a peace plan to end the war, which they intend to present to Trump, CNN reported.

Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for Europe’s united front, emphasizing that Ukraine’s fight for independence and security has received unprecedented backing.

In a post on X, Zelenskyy wrote:

“The summit in London was dedicated to Ukraine and our shared European future. We feel strong support for Ukraine, for our people—both soldiers and civilians—and our independence.”

He further highlighted Europe’s high level of unity, stating:

“Together, we are working in Europe to establish a solid foundation for cooperation with the United States in pursuit of true peace and guaranteed security. Europe’s unity is at an exceptionally high level, one that has not been seen in a long time.”

Zelenskyy: “Joint Strength Can Protect Our Future”

Zelenskyy hinted at a series of upcoming diplomatic efforts focused on securing long-term security guarantees for Ukraine.

“A series of important meetings and decisions are being prepared for the near future,” he noted, expressing gratitude to allies.
“I am grateful to all our friends and partners for their efforts in bringing about a stable and guaranteed peace in Ukraine. Joint strength can protect our future.”

With Europe rallying behind Ukraine, all eyes are now on Trump’s next move—and whether his America First policy will shift US involvement in the ongoing war.
