Heavy monsoon rain disrupted daily life across vast swathes of northern and central India on Saturday, triggering red alerts in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Maharashtra. Cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru also braced for intense rainfall and thunderstorms, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of more extreme weather over the next 48 hours.

🔴 Top Alerts as of Sunday Morning:

  • Red Alert: Himachal Pradesh (Kangra, Sirmaur, Mandi), Pune (ghats), Punjab
  • Orange Alert: Jharkhand, Mumbai (Palghar, Raigad), Haryana
  • Heavy Rain Forecast: Delhi, Bengaluru, Rajasthan

Residents in high-alert zones have been advised to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and monitor updates from authorities.

🏔️ Himachal Pradesh: Red Alert & 240 Roads Blocked

  • Continuous rainfall and landslides have blocked 240 roads, including 176 in Mandi district.
  • Red alert in Kangra, Sirmaur, and Mandi for extremely heavy rainfall.
  • Orange alert in Shimla, Kullu, Chamba, Hamirpur, Solan, Una, Bilaspur.
  • Flash flood warning issued for five districts: Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, and Sirmaur.
  • Since June 20, 74 deaths reported in the state, 47 rain-related.

🌾 Punjab & Haryana: Red Alert, Crops at Risk

  • Red alert for Punjab, orange for Haryana, including capital Chandigarh.
  • Intense rainfall forecast in Pathankot, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Mohali, and more.
  • IMD predicts sustained rainfall till July 9, risking crop damage and flooding in low-lying areas.

🌧️ Delhi: Storms, Thunder and Waterlogging

  • Moderate rain with thunderstorms expected.
  • Temperature hovers around 35°C with cloud cover.
  • Weather action to peak between July 6–8 as monsoon axis stays near the Capital.
  • Waterlogging and traffic snarls already reported in parts of NCR.

🌊 Maharashtra: Pune on Red Alert, Mumbai on Yellow

  • Pune’s ghat regions face red alert for July 6-7.
  • Mumbai under yellow alert; may see heavy rain, gusts up to 55 kmph.
  • Raigad, Palghar under orange alert.
  • Rain intensity expected to reduce after July 8.

🌩️ Bengaluru: Thunderstorms and Strong Winds

  • City to see 40–50 kmph winds, thunderstorms, and light-to-moderate rain through Sunday.
  • IMD warns of multiple thunderstorm cycles through afternoon and night.

🧭 Elsewhere:

Jharkhand (Orange Alert):

  • Heavy to very heavy rain in Simdega, Gumla, Lohardaga, East/West Singhbhum, Khunti.

Rajasthan:

  • Sikar tops with 45 mm rainfall.
  • Moderate-to-heavy rain expected in Bharatpur, Jaipur, Shekhawati over the next 2–3 days.
  • Rain to subside in southern Rajasthan and Jodhpur by Monday.
