What If Rain Washes Out IPL 2025 Final? Here’s How RCB vs PBKS Title Clash Will Be Decided

The IPL 2025 final in Ahmedabad has a reserve day lined up, but if rain wins out on both days, here’s how the winner will be crowned.

June-3, 2025: The much-anticipated IPL 2025 Final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) is set to kick off at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. But fans and players alike are keeping a watchful eye on the skies, with rain threatening to play spoilsport yet again, just as it did during Qualifier 2 at the same venue.

Reserve Day to the Rescue
Luckily, the IPL governing council has planned ahead. There is a reserve day scheduled for June 4 to ensure that the final can be completed if the rain washes out play on June 3. If the final is interrupted by rain after it begins, the reserve day will be used to resume and complete the match.

Fans will remember the 2023 IPL final at the same venue when heavy rain forced the decider to be pushed to the reserve day. That match eventually saw Chennai Super Kings lift the trophy via the DLS method.

What If Both Days Are Washed Out?
If the rain gods refuse to relent and both June 3 and June 4 are completely washed out, the trophy will be awarded to the team that finished higher on the points table in the league stage. That’s great news for PBKS, who topped the table—just 0.07 net run-rate points ahead of RCB. It would be heartbreak for RCB fans, who watched their team knock PBKS out in Qualifier 1, only to potentially lose the title to them on a technicality.

Fingers Crossed for the Final Showdown
Both teams and their fans will be hoping that rain stays away and the IPL 2025 final can play out in its full glory. A new champion will be crowned, with either RCB or PBKS lifting the IPL trophy for the first time in their history.
