Tsitsipas Teams Up with Ivanisevic to Tackle Grass Court Woes

June 18, 2025: Stefanos Tsitsipas is embarking on a fresh coaching partnership with former Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic as he kicks off the grass court season. Their first tournament together is the ATP 500 Halle Open, where world No. 1 Jannik Sinner is the top seed.

This marks a turning point for Tsitsipas, who is entering unfamiliar territory—he is unseeded at an event for the first time since 2018. Despite having the tools to succeed on grass, the Greek star has historically struggled on the surface, with a career win rate of just 56%.

Ivanisevic, who famously won Wimbledon in 2001 and later coached Novak Djokovic to three titles at SW19, believes the key to unlocking Tsitsipas’ potential lies in changing his mindset.

“There’s a lot to work with,” Ivanisevic told ATP Tour. “His poor results on grass are mostly mental. If you believe you can’t play on grass, the surface will punish you. Grass demands a different kind of patience and attitude.”

Tsitsipas has one grass title to his name—the 2022 Mallorca Championships—but has never advanced past the fourth round at Wimbledon. Last year, he was ousted in the second round by Emil Ruusuvuori.

As he prepares to face Italy’s Luciano Darderi in the first round at Halle, Tsitsipas is hoping that Ivanisevic’s experience and insights can finally help him turn a corner on grass.
