"What You Desire Will Happen": Rajnath Singh Hints at Strong Response Amid Indo-Pak Tensions
New Delhi, May 4, 2025 —
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh delivered a sharp message amid mounting tensions with Pakistan, hinting at a potential military response following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that left 26 tourists dead. Speaking at an event in Delhi, Singh asserted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the nation would respond in line with public expectations.
“What you desire will certainly happen,” Singh said, addressing a crowd that echoed calls for retribution.
He underscored that the defence of India’s borders and national honour is his paramount responsibility.
“It is my responsibility to work with the armed forces and give a befitting reply to those who cast an evil eye on our country.”
India has accused Pakistan-backed terror groups of orchestrating the Pahalgam massacre, prompting a series of retaliatory measures:

Ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) have intensified over the past week, prompting swift responses from the Indian Army. The last major military retaliation by India was the Balakot airstrike in 2019 and the 2016 surgical strikes after the Uri attack.
Rajnath Singh invoked these precedents indirectly, reinforcing public sentiment that India is prepared to act when provoked.
“People know how our Prime Minister works… how he takes bold decisions.”
