July 0, 2025: Sunday’s F1 race at Silverstone is set to smash attendance records, with 166,000 fans anticipated for the British Grand Prix and nearly half a million across the weekend, making it the biggest sporting event of the British summer. The turnout marks a new record for Silverstone in F1’s 75th anniversary year, underscoring the sport’s surging popularity.

“It’s quite a nice symmetry about a new record on the 75th anniversary event,” said Stuart Pringle, Silverstone managing director, adding that both F1 and the circuit must keep evolving to stay at the forefront of motorsport for the next 75 years.

Silverstone, the site of the very first F1 World Championship race in 1950, is considered the spiritual home of Formula 1. This year, four British drivers — Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris, George Russell, and the UK-born Alex Albon (who races for Thailand) — will take to the iconic track. Each has strong ties to Silverstone: Hamilton holds a record nine wins at the circuit, Norris and Russell made their racing debuts there, and Russell described watching his first British GP from the Copse corner in 2009 as the moment he knew he wanted to race.

Norris, in particular, is chasing his maiden Silverstone win, saying, “If I could swap all race wins for one, it would be for a Silverstone win.” Capitalizing on his popularity, Silverstone introduced the ‘Landostand’ grandstand decked in Norris’s signature neon yellow. The initial 10,000 tickets sold out in 90 minutes, with an additional 1,000 selling out in days — 70% of buyers were women, highlighting the race’s growing appeal among diverse fans.

As F1 returns to its roots at Silverstone, the atmosphere promises to be electric, with home heroes aiming to deliver a memorable race in front of a record-breaking crowd.
