Why are There Two IPL 2025 Matches Today Despite It Being a Tuesday-Explained
April 8, 2025: In a rare occurrence for the Indian Premier League (IPL), two matches are scheduled today, April 8 (Tuesday) — a day that typically sees only one fixture on the calendar. Fans are in for a double dose of action with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) facing Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at 3:30 PM and Punjab Kings (PBKS) clashing with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at 7:30 PM.
But why the unusual double-header on a weekday?
Originally, only the PBKS vs CSK game at Mullanpur was slated for April 8. The KKR vs LSG encounter was to take place at Eden Gardens on Sunday, April 6 at 3:30 PM. However, the match had to be rescheduled.
According to sources, the Kolkata Police informed the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) that they would not be able to deploy adequate security forces on April 6 due to Ram Navami celebrations and related public events across the city. As a result, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to postpone the match to Tuesday, April 8, slotting it for an afternoon start.
