Why Did Bonnyrigg High School Go Into Lockdown So Quickly?

June 25, 2025: Bonnyrigg High School in Sydney’s west was evacuated on Wednesday morning after receiving a threatening email, prompting a rapid emergency response. The situation unfolded around 11:15 a.m. and involved police and Fire and Rescue NSW personnel.

The NSW Department of Education confirmed that police responded immediately to the threat, which, according to some reports, may have been a bomb threat. “Police were called to Bonnyrigg High School after the school received a threatening email,” the department stated.

Principal Reece Hooke addressed the situation, saying the school activated its evacuation plan without delay. “All students and staff moved in an orderly way to the designated evacuation areas,” Hooke said. Parents were urged not to contact the school or their children during the emergency to avoid disrupting communication and operations. By 12:50 p.m., authorities had cleared the campus and allowed normal school activities to resume.

No injuries were reported, and no dangerous items were discovered. Fire and Rescue NSW clarified that their presence was related to a separate report of loose dogs in the area, which turned out to be unfounded.

While the nature of the threat remains officially unspecified, some community members suspected a hoax. Social media posts showed widespread concern, but also relief that the situation ended safely.

Principal Hooke commended the calm and responsible actions of students and staff, emphasizing that their safety remains the school’s top priority.
