‘Wicked: For Good’ Trailer Teases More Magic, Drama, and Flying Monkeys in Highly Anticipated Sequel

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo return as Glinda and Elphaba in the second chapter of the Wicked saga, promising high-stakes choices, iconic imagery, and new characters when the film hits theaters on November 21.

Los Angeles, June 6: Universal Pictures has officially released the first trailer for Wicked: For Good — the highly anticipated sequel to last year’s blockbuster hit Wicked. Directed by Jon M. Chu, the film stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, reprising their roles as Glinda the Good Witch and Elphaba, the misunderstood Wicked Witch of the West.

The new trailer, which originally premiered at CinemaCon 2024, sets the tone for a sweeping continuation of the fantastical journey through Oz. Wicked: For Good explores the fallout of past decisions made by the two witches, testing their friendship and shaping their fates as forces of good and evil intertwine.

A major tease in the footage includes a shadowy glimpse of Dorothy, hinting at her increasing importance in the story without revealing her full identity. Classic elements from the Wizard of Oz universe — including the Yellow Brick Road, a mysterious wedding, and plenty of flying monkeys — appear throughout the trailer, intensifying fan excitement.

“Elphaba, they’re coming for you,” warns Glinda, raising the stakes as danger looms.

Joining the stellar cast are Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum, promising a rich ensemble performance. The screenplay is crafted by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox, while Marc Platt and David Stone return as producers, continuing their long-standing involvement with the Wicked universe.

The sequel follows the massive success of the first Wicked film, which premiered in November 2024 and grossed nearly $750 million globally, making it the highest-grossing Broadway musical adaptation of all time. The film also claimed two Academy Awards out of ten nominations, cementing its place as a cinematic phenomenon.

Inspired by Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, and originally adapted into the beloved 2003 Broadway musical, Wicked tells the untold story of Oz before Dorothy’s arrival, reframing familiar characters through a more complex moral lens.

Producer Marc Platt previously revealed that splitting the story into two films wasn’t his original plan. Speaking at a Producers Guild of America (PGA) event earlier this year, he shared, “I remember going to the movies as a kid and watching musicals or Lawrence of Arabia that had intermissions… and that was my dream for Wicked. That was one battle I lost.”

Wicked: For Good is slated for theatrical release on November 21, 2025, and is expected to once again captivate audiences with its dazzling visuals, compelling music, and emotional storytelling.
