India drops to 96th spot in the Corruption Perceptions Index 2024, as global corruption concerns rise.

February 12, 2025: New Delhi:Denmark has been ranked as the least corrupt country in the world, followed by Finland, Singapore, and New Zealand, according to the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2024, compiled by Transparency International. The report, which evaluates public sector corruption across 180 nations, has placed India at 96th position, three spots lower than its 2023 ranking of 93.

The CPI ranks countries based on a scale of 0 to 100, where zero represents a highly corrupt system and 100 signifies a clean governance structure. The 2024 report highlights a worsening corruption problem globally, even though some nations have shown progress.

India’s Corruption Rank Drops in 2024

India’s overall CPI score in 2024 stands at 38, reflecting a slight drop from 39 in 2023 and 40 in 2022. The declining trend indicates growing concerns over governance, transparency, and accountability in the country.

How Do India’s Neighbors Rank?

  • Pakistan ranks 135th, struggling with deep-rooted corruption issues.

Transparency International also raised concerns about corruption undermining climate change initiatives. The report warns that a lack of transparency in climate funds and undue corporate influence could obstruct ambitious policies aimed at combating global warming.
