X Outage Leaves Users Unable To Post Or Send Messages
May 24, 2025, A major outage has hit X (formerly known as Twitter), causing a widespread disruption in services for its users globally. Starting at around 6 pm IST, thousands of users reported difficulties accessing the platform, including login troubles and being unable to send or receive direct messages.
Key highlights:
The outage coincides with fresh tensions between X and the Indian government. The government recently ordered X to block over 8,000 accounts within India, citing violations of local laws.

X complied with the order but expressed concerns over censorship and freedom of speech, noting in a statement:
“In most cases, the Indian government has not specified which posts from an account have violated India’s local laws. For a significant number of accounts, we did not receive any evidence or justification to block the accounts.”
Social media users flooded forums like Reddit and other platforms to complain about the sudden inability to post content or access important features. Some expressed concerns that the outage might be connected to the recent government orders.
