Yashasvi Jaiswal Opens Up About Valuable Advice He Received From Stalwart Virat Kohli

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s admiration for Virat Kohli and the influence Kohli has had on his career is truly inspiring. As Jaiswal prepares for his debut Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in Australia, the young opener is looking to apply the invaluable lessons he has learned from the Indian cricket legend to his own game.

Speaking in a video posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Jaiswal said, “When I started playing like senior cricket, I did speak to Virat Paji that how he managed himself. Paji has said to me that if I want to play all that cricket, then I have to be disciplined in my daily routines and follow the process. So I have seen him doing the stuff consistently day by day. Actually seeing him, it motivates me a lot to put in the work and do something and make a difference in my habits, which is really important for me. I feel like I will be better day by day.”

Jaiswal’s domestic record is impressive, with 1,407 runs in 14 Tests at an average of 56.28, including three centuries and eight fifties. He has been particularly strong in home conditions, scoring 1,091 runs in 10 matches at an average of 60.61. His highest score of 214* in domestic cricket shows his potential to score big runs, which will be crucial for him as he takes on the Australian challenge.

As India begins its campaign in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Optus Stadium in Perth, Jaiswal’s performance will be under scrutiny. The series is always highly competitive, with India looking to defend its reputation in Australia. Jaiswal, along with other young players like Shubman Gill, will be expected to step up in challenging conditions.

After Perth, the series moves to Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney, providing Jaiswal with multiple opportunities to showcase his adaptability across different conditions. Each of these venues presents its own challenges, with the Melbourne and Sydney Tests especially historic and pressure-filled due to their association with the Boxing Day and New Year’s Tests.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s preparations for his first Border-Gavaskar Trophy show a mature and disciplined mindset, influenced by the guidance of Virat Kohli. As he sets out to make his mark in Australia, his focus on process, preparation, and mental toughness will be key factors in determining how well he adapts to the international stage. With the motivation to represent India at the highest level and the lessons learned from Kohli, Jaiswal has the potential to turn this tour into a breakout series.
