Toronto Film Festival 2024 to Feature Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lopez, and Salma Hayek

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2024 is set to showcase an impressive array of films, including Angelina Jolie’s highly anticipated war drama Without Blood, a documentary about Bruce Springsteen, and Mike Leigh’s contemporary tragicomedy Hard Truths. These films will mark their world premieres at the festival, highlighting a diverse and star-studded lineup.

The festival, running from September 5 to 15, will feature a wide range of films from acclaimed directors and rising stars. Notable additions to the lineup include new projects from Alicia Vikander, Lupita Nyong’o, Steve Coogan, Ralph Fiennes, Jennifer Lopez, Salma Hayek, Lily James, and Riz Ahmed.

In the Gala section at Roy Thomson Hall, TIFF will present two notable music specials: Andrea Bocelli: Because I Believe, a biopic directed by Cosima Spender about the renowned Italian tenor, and Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band, a documentary by Thom Zimny for Disney+ and Hulu. Zimny, who also showcased his Netflix documentary Sly last year, returns with this new project.

The festival will feature a mix of films that debuted at Cannes and Venice, as well as high-profile world premieres. Among the North American debuts are Paul Schrader’s Oh, Canada with Uma Thurman, Richard Gere, and Jacob Elordi, David Cronenberg’s The Shrouds, and Sean Baker’s Anora, which won the top prize at Cannes and stars Mikey Madison.

Canadian debuts include Jacques Audiard’s crime musical Emilia Perez featuring Zoe Saldana, Selena Gomez, and Karla Sofia Gascon; Michael Gracey’s Better Man; and actor-turned-director Embeth Davidtz’s Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight.

International premieres include Conclave, a Vatican conspiracy film starring Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, and John Lithgow; Piece by Piece, an animated biopic about Pharrell Williams; and The Piano Lesson, Malcolm Washington’s feature directorial debut for Netflix, starring Samuel L. Jackson, John David Washington, and Ray Fisher.

The festival will open with Ben Stiller’s comedy Nutcrackers, directed by David Gordon Green, and close with Rebel Wilson’s musical comedy The Deb, set in rural Australia. This tradition of featuring mainstream crowd-pleasers at the beginning and end of TIFF continues with these selections.

For movie enthusiasts, TIFF 2024 promises an exciting lineup with a blend of mainstream and independent films, setting the stage for the upcoming Hollywood awards season.
