Archer’s electric air taxis could help spectators beat Los Angeles traffic during the Summer Games, with operations planned to launch in 2026 pending FAA approval.
Los Angeles | May 17, 2025:
In what could mark a futuristic shift in urban transportation, Archer Aviation has been announced as the official air taxi provider for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, potentially allowing spectators to bypass LA’s infamous gridlocks via flying taxis.
The vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft named ‘Midnight’ is designed to carry up to four passengers, with intra-city flights estimated to last 10 to 20 minutes. Archer aims to launch operations in 2026, subject to certification by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

We’re extremely proud to announce that Archer is the exclusive Air Taxi provider of the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games and Team USA. With over 15 million visitors expected to be hosted during the Games and billions of viewers expected to tune in… pic.twitter.com/FVo28U8paa
How It Works:
Passengers will be able to book rides through a mobile app, much like traditional ride-hailing services. Archer has taken cues from Uber’s helicopter services in New York, and aims to keep pricing affordable and competitive.
Though Europe had similar ambitions for flying taxis during the Paris 2024 Olympics, regulatory barriers stalled the plan. Archer hopes to succeed where others paused, positioning the LA28 Olympics as a potential showcase for urban air mobility.
