Jeff Bezos’ $500M Superyacht Faces Setback in Venice Ahead of Lavish Wedding

Venice’s strict maritime rules could keep Bezos’ yacht Koru away from the city’s iconic canals as the billionaire prepares to tie the knot with Lauren Sanchez on June 26.

Venice, March 30, 2025 — Billionaire Jeff Bezos is preparing for a star-studded wedding with fiancée Lauren Sanchez in the enchanting city of Venice on June 26, but his plans are running into a luxury-sized snag: his $500 million superyacht Koru is too large to access some of the city’s most iconic canals.

While Venice may offer the perfect romantic backdrop, its strict maritime regulations are proving a challenge for the Amazon founder. The city prohibits large ships from nearing historic sites like St. Mark’s Square, the Grand Canal, the Giudecca Canal, and the Bridge of Sighs, as a protective measure following warnings from UNESCO, which previously threatened to place Venice on its Endangered Heritage list due to cruise ship damage.

Bezos’ yacht weighs in at 3,493 gross tons, far below the 25,000 gross ton limit. However, due to its size and design, it still won’t be permitted into the Grand Canal — the heart of Venice’s scenic beauty.

According to CNN, Bezos and Sanchez have nearly booked out five top-tier luxury hotels along the Grand Canal for the final weekend of June. These include the Grand Aman Hotel (famed for hosting George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin’s wedding in 2014), Gritti Palace, St. Regis Venice, Hotel Danieli, and the Belmond Hotel Cipriani.

To ensure smooth transport and photo ops, the couple has reportedly secured an elite fleet of private water taxis, including the iconic “Amore”, the same vessel Clooney used during his wedding festivities.

The wedding, to be held on board Koru, is expected to be attended by a glittering lineup of Hollywood stars and political elites, including Donald Trump, Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner, Kim Kardashian, Leonardo DiCaprio, Bill Gates, Katy Perry, Kris Jenner, and more.

Jeff Bezos was previously married to MacKenzie Scott, with whom he shares four children. The couple divorced in 2019, after 25 years of marriage.

Whether or not Koru can float into Venice’s postcard-perfect canals, Bezos’ wedding weekend promises to make waves globally — both literally and figuratively.
