Maha Kumbh 2025: Basant Panchami Preparations in Full Swing After Tragic Stampede

Authorities in Uttar Pradesh implement zero-error measures for Basant Panchami’s Amrit Snan at Maha Kumbh following recent tragedy.

February 2, 2025: The Uttar Pradesh administration is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a smooth and error-free execution of the Maha Kumbh’s final Amrit Snan on Basant Panchami, scheduled for Monday, February 3, 2025. This heightened vigilance follows a tragic stampede on January 29 during the Mauni Amavasya Snan, which claimed 30 lives and injured 60 others.

Key Measures for a Zero-Error Event

  • Deployment of Senior IAS Officers: Ashish Goyal and Bhanu Chandra Goswami, veterans of the 2019 Ardh Kumbh, have joined forces with Mela Adhikari Vijay Kiran Anand for streamlined operations.
  • Crowd Control: ADG Bhanu Bhaskar is spearheading efforts to manage the vast crowd. On Sunday, he supervised activities from the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), issuing real-time instructions via loudspeakers to maintain order at the ghats.
  • Efficient Movement: Devotees are being urged to vacate ghats promptly after bathing to prevent overcrowding. Designated areas for refreshments have been set up to discourage lingering at the ritual sites.
  • Appeal from Religious Leaders: Mahant Ravindra Puri of the All India Akhada Parishad emphasized that the spiritual significance of a dip extends across a five-kilometer stretch of the Ganga, alleviating pressure on the central Sangam area.

Amrit Snan: The Pinnacle of Maha Kumbh Rituals

The Amrit Snan is the Maha Kumbh Mela’s most sacred ritual, drawing millions of pilgrims worldwide. Devotees believe the celestial alignments during this event purify their sins and pave the way to salvation (moksha).

This year’s Basant Panchami Snan will mark the third Amrit Snan, following the previous ones on January 14 (Makar Sankranti) and January 29 (Mauni Amavasya). The grand finale of the Maha Kumbh is set for February 26, coinciding with Mahashivratri.

Prime Minister’s Visit to Maha Kumbh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to visit Maha Kumbh Nagar on February 5, underscoring the event’s national significance.
