Viral Video of Indian Tourists Dancing in Thailand Sparks Online Debate

Safari World performance clip divides internet; some call it ‘embarrassing’, others say ‘let them enjoy’

Bangkok/New Delhi | June 21, 2025 — A viral video showing a group of Indian tourists energetically dancing at Safari World in Bangkok, Thailand has ignited a social media storm. While some users slammed the behaviour as “cringe” and “embarrassing,” others defended the tourists, urging critics to “let people enjoy.”

The viral video, now crossing 549,000 views on X, captures Indian tourists enthusiastically dancing to loud music in a public area of the zoo, with mostly Indian onlookers in the audience and a few visibly surprised international spectators in the background.

The video’s on-screen caption reads: “When you visit Thailand to see Thai people but… Indians everywhere,” hinting at the growing Indian tourist footprint in Southeast Asia. It was shared by user @baldwhiner, who posted:

“Dear desi tourists abroad, WE BEG YOU… if you weren’t a singer, dancer, or comic back home, this isn’t the time to start. Don’t make the planet suffer 2nd-hand embarrassment on our behalf.”

Mixed Reactions Flood Social Media

The comment section erupted with criticism, with many Indians expressing discomfort with what they perceived as “loud and intrusive behaviour” abroad.

“Embarrassing. I wouldn’t mind if they had rhythm… but those pot-bellied dancers must be banned,” wrote one user.

Another warned, “At this rate, even other developing countries will stop offering visa-on-arrival to Indians.”

A third user linked the moment to cultural decline: “This is what happens when mediocrity is celebrated back home. No one dares to say it’s cringe anymore.”

Supporters Push Back: ‘Let Them Have Fun’

However, not everyone agreed with the negative commentary. Several users offered nuanced or supportive takes, noting that tourism is about enjoyment and that context matters.

“Chill. The music’s playing. Maybe it was encouraged. On our Vietnam cruise, we all danced — Indians, Japanese, Filipinos. It was fun,” one user explained.

Another added, “If the stage was given, they’re allowed to enjoy. This isn’t a school tour. Let people be themselves — unless they’re breaking rules.”

Some even argued that social media’s obsession with “shaming our own people” abroad was doing more harm than good.

Cultural Expression or Public Embarrassment?

The viral clip has now become a larger talking point on social platforms, raising questions about the fine line between cultural expression and public decorum while traveling.

While many agree that enjoying yourself is central to the tourist experience, others stress the importance of being mindful of local sensibilities, especially in international public spaces.

As the debate continues, it’s clear that one viral video has opened up a much-needed conversation about responsible tourism, social behaviour abroad, and internet call-out culture.
