Earthquake Of Magnitude 5.3 Jolts Central Pakistan
June 29, 2025: A moderate earthquake of magnitude 5.3 struck central Pakistan early Sunday, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ). The tremors were felt across various regions, including parts of Punjab province, causing momentary panic among residents but no immediate reports of casualties or structural damage have been confirmed.
The epicenter of the quake was located approximately 149 kilometers west of Multan, as reported by the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). The quake occurred at a depth of around 10 kilometers, making it relatively shallow and more likely to be felt at the surface.
Social media posts from residents in Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Bahawalpur mentioned mild shaking, with some people evacuating their homes briefly. Local authorities have confirmed that emergency response teams are on alert, and damage assessments are underway.
Pakistan is situated in a seismically active zone, where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates meet, and experiences frequent quakes. In recent years, the region has been hit by several moderate to strong earthquakes, prompting calls for improved infrastructure and preparedness.
More details are awaited as seismological monitoring agencies and government authorities continue to assess the impact of the quake.
