Thomas, who stabbed Bush 37 times with a kitchen knife and a flick knife, had shockingly searched online for “the anatomy of the neck” just hours before the attack. Despite admitting manslaughter, he denied murder, but the court ruled it a premeditated act.

The court heard that Thomas was driven to the house by his grandmother, retrieved weapons, and launched a vicious attack on Bush while he was in his bedroom. Neighbors reported hearing “screams of horror.” After the murder, Thomas called emergency services, falsely claiming Bush had attacked him.

Judge Steyn labeled the murder “barbaric and cruel,” highlighting the betrayal of trust Bush had in Thomas. Grieving family members described the profound loss, with Bush’s girlfriend calling him “the love of my life” and mourning the future they had envisioned together.

Thomas’s defense cited mental health struggles, with claims he exhibited psychotic behavior in the months leading up to the incident. However, prosecutors emphasized the calculated nature of his actions.

Thomas is the grandson of Sir Stanley Thomas, whose family founded Peter’s Pies in the 1950s, later selling the business in 1988. The case has left a community in shock over the devastating betrayal and brutal crime.
