March 7, 2025: “I Am Here To Tell You…”: Emotional Trudeau Bids Farewell, Warns of Trump’s Tariffs
Ottawa: In an emotional farewell speech, Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau broke down on camera, emphasizing his commitment to putting Canadians first and warning of tough times ahead due to US President Donald Trump’s tariff policies.
Having led Canada for nearly a decade, Trudeau announced his resignation in January, citing internal party dissent and declining approval ratings. He will remain interim prime minister until the Liberal Party elects his successor on Sunday.

Delivering his speech on Thursday, Trudeau held back tears, reaffirming his dedication to Canada.
“Every single day in this office, I put Canadians first. I have had people’s backs. That’s why I am here to tell you all that we got you. Even in the very last days of this government, we will not let Canadians down today or in the future,” he said.
He also addressed the looming US-Canada trade dispute, stressing that Canada must remain united to tackle Trump’s aggressive economic policies.
Tensions between Ottawa and Washington escalated after both countries imposed 25% tariffs on each other’s imports, leading to market instability.
However, Trump recently paused new tariffs on Canadian and Mexican imports, citing concerns over economic disruption. The tariff war is now on hold until April 2, giving both sides time to reassess their trade strategies.
The US-Canada relationship has been particularly strained under Trump’s presidency. The two leaders have frequently clashed, with Trump even mockingly suggesting that Canada should become the 51st state of the US and referring to Trudeau as a “Governor.”
In his speech, Trudeau denounced Trump’s aggressive stance on trade, emphasizing that economic cooperation—not confrontation—is the key to a successful partnership.
“For ‘America First’ to work, Canada and Mexico must prosper. International trade and bilateral ties don’t function like real estate deals, where only one side wins,” he said.
As Trudeau prepares to step down, his farewell speech serves as a final rallying cry, urging Canadians to stand strong in the face of global uncertainties.
