Speaking on the Work In Progress podcast hosted by Sophia Bush, Michelle reflected on life post-White House and how, with daughters Malia and Sasha now grown, she’s making empowered decisions to focus on her well-being.

“I chose to do what was best for me—not what I had to do, or what others expected.”

🔇 Rumours vs Reality
Her absence from events like Donald Trump’s second inauguration and Jimmy Carter’s funeral sparked divorce speculations — which Michelle dismissed.

“People couldn’t even fathom I was making a choice for myself… they had to assume my husband and I are divorcing.”

🌱 A Shift in Priorities
Michelle admitted that, like many women, she struggled with the idea of putting herself first. But now, she’s learning to listen to her own needs and let go of societal expectations.

📚 Still A Force For Change
Though she’s stepped back from some political events, Michelle remains deeply active — from delivering speeches and championing girls’ education to supporting Democratic candidates, especially Kamala Harris during the 2024 elections.

💬 No Stranger to Vulnerability
In her memoir Becoming, Michelle had already opened up about the challenges of marriage during Barack Obama’s presidency — discussing moments of loneliness, emotional exhaustion, and personal growth.

Now, entering a more reflective and intentional chapter of life, Michelle Obama continues to lead by example — proving that self-care is not selfish, and that powerful women can define success on their own terms.
