July 12, 2025: Iowa Weather – Central Iowa saw yet another severe weather event this afternoon, complete with flash flooding, heavy rain, and the potential of tornadoes. Even though all watches and warnings have ended, the effects are still being felt in a number of towns.
Heavy rain caused extensive flooding in Ames, causing traffic jams and streets to flood. In Newton, a tornado warning was issued earlier in the day when threatening cloud rotation was spotted close to the Iowa Speedway.

Major flooding is still a real danger, especially in areas of eastern Iowa where the ground was already saturated from earlier storms, even though the tornado threat has temporarily decreased.
Residents are urged to use caution, keep off flooded roads, and pay attention to local authorities’ updates as the crisis progresses, as emergency services remain on alert.
