‘Japanese Baba Vanga’ Prediction Cripples Travel Travel Plans of Thousands-What did She Predict?
Tokyo | June 5, 2025 —Renowned manga artist and self-proclaimed clairvoyant Ryo Tatsuki, often referred to as the “Japanese Baba Vanga,” has stirred widespread panic with her chilling prediction of a massive tsunami expected to hit Japan on July 5, 2025. The resulting hysteria has led to a dramatic 83% decline in flight bookings to the country, particularly from East Asian nations.
Tatsuki’s forecast, illustrated in her cult manga “The Future I Saw,” suggests an apocalyptic event involving tectonic shifts between Japan and the Philippines. Though the prediction lacks scientific backing, its resonance has been amplified by Tatsuki’s past accurate forecasts — most notably the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, which claimed over 18,000 lives and caused the Fukushima nuclear disaster.
According to Bloomberg Intelligence, summer bookings from Hong Kong are down 50% year-on-year. Travel agencies report widespread cancellations, with many would-be tourists either postponing or rerouting their vacations away from Japan due to fear of a natural disaster.

A Hong Kong travel operator reported:
“We’ve had more than half of our clients cancel trips for July. Many explicitly cited the manga prediction as the reason.”
The steep drop in tourism is causing concern among Japanese authorities, especially given Japan’s reliance on travel revenue during summer months.
In response, Japanese officials are working to quell the panic. Miyagi Governor Yoshihiro Murai dismissed the prophecy, stating:
“It would be a major problem if the spread of unscientific rumours on social media affected tourism. There is no reason to worry. Japanese citizens themselves are not fleeing abroad.”
Government scientists emphasized that while Japan is indeed located on the volatile Pacific Ring of Fire, the prediction of specific earthquakes or tsunamis remains scientifically impossible. However, in April, a separate government task force did warn of the possibility of a major offshore earthquake causing mass casualties — but this was based on geological modeling, not prophecy.
Despite her notoriety, Ryo Tatsuki herself has urged caution. In public statements, she acknowledged that her predictions should not override expert seismic assessments and encouraged people to consult science, not fear.
Whether coincidence or foresight, Tatsuki’s track record has made her a household name among believers and skeptics alike — and her July 2025 prediction is proving to be her most disruptive yet.
