Goa, March 22 – What happens when you trade fast-paced American life for the peaceful beaches of Goa? For Elliot Rosenberg, it meant freedom, fulfillment, and financial stability. Elliot, who moved to India nine years ago, says his journey began with a “rare financial decision” 12 years ago. Tired of rising living costs in the US and the burden of “lifestyle creep”, he decided to break free.
“In the US, you’re constantly pressured to spend to maintain friendships—fancy dinners, concerts, constant shopping. That wasn’t the life I wanted,” he shared.
After graduation, Elliot booked a one-way ticket to Brazil to launch a business he was passionate about. He survived on just $5,000 in savings, living affordably while learning to adapt. Later, he embarked on a 15-month solo journey across 17 countries in Asia, using credit card points and backpacking his way through Southeast Asia.

Eventually, fate brought him to India.
“I met my wife here, learned Hindi, became close to her family, and started two businesses,” Elliot wrote. “Now I live in Goa with my family for under ₹1 lakh a month, and we don’t stress about money.”
Elliot now serves US-based clients remotely, earning in dollars while enjoying the lower cost of living in India. He credits this freedom with enabling him and his wife to take professional risks without fear.

“There are downsides to living abroad, sure. But I’m fully adjusted and happy here. I still love America and visit once a year—but I’ve truly found home here.”
Rosenberg’s post has received thousands of reactions, with people praising his bold choices and unconventional path.
“I loved your appetite to take risks… it paid off,” one user commented.
“India is far better for healthy and safe living,” another added.
A third chimed in: “Kudos for having the courage to step out of the norm!”
