January 17, 2025: As of Friday, over 1.78 million pilgrims and 1 million Kalpavasis had visited the Mahakumbh Mela by 4 pm, according to official data. The grand event has witnessed over 2.78 million people taking a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam on the fifth day alone. By January 16, more than 70 million people have participated in the sacred bathing ritual, marking the ongoing spiritual significance of the Mahakumbh Mela.
The authorities have also taken stringent measures to maintain law and order during the large-scale event. In light of various upcoming festivals and events, including the Mahakumbh’s Amrit Snan, Republic Day, Mauni Amavasya, and others, the Additional Commissioner of Police in Prayagraj has implemented prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code, 2023, which will remain in effect until February 28. These orders aim to prevent potential disruptions caused by anti-social elements and ensure the peaceful observance of festivals and examinations.
The Mahakumbh, which began on January 13, will continue until February 26, with key bathing dates such as Mauni Amavasya (January 29), Basant Panchami (February 3), Maghi Purnima (February 12), and Maha Shivaratri (February 26) still to come.
