April 29, 2025: Pakistan-Based Hackers Launch Fresh Attacks on Indian Defence-Linked Websites

Pakistan-based hackers have launched a fresh wave of cyberattacks targeting Indian websites, particularly those linked to defence and educational institutions, amid heightened tensions following last week’s Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 civilians dead.

On Tuesday, the websites targeted included:

  • Army Public School (APS) Srinagar
  • APS Ranikhet
  • Army Welfare Housing Organisation (AWHO) database
  • Indian Air Force Placement Organisation portal

The hackers, operating under the name “IOK Hacker,” attempted to deface pages, disrupt services through denial-of-service attacks, and access sensitive personal information. Defaced pages displayed a Pakistan flag, a provocative message about Kashmir, and an image of a masked individual in a Guy Fawkes mask, commonly associated with the Anonymous hacker collective.

One disturbing message read:

“Indian Army Housing Society complete data leak… we know your home address now.”

This followed a similar visual template: Pakistan flag, Kashmir slogans, and symbolic imagery.

Indian cybersecurity systems promptly detected and traced the attacks to Pakistan, isolating the affected websites. Officials confirmed that no classified or operational military networks were breached.

“The Indian Army continues to strengthen its cyber defenses to protect its digital infrastructure and personnel welfare,” a senior official told NDTV.

The latest attacks come on the heels of last week’s hack of the Army College of Nursing website by a Pakistan-based group Team Insane PK, which also posted inflammatory messages about the two-nation theory.

In addition to defence-linked sites, Pakistani hackers also targeted three Rajasthan government portals earlier today, posting anti-India messages and referencing the recent Pahalgam attack.

India has intensified diplomatic measures against Pakistan, including downgrading diplomatic ties, suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, and cutting limited trade relations. In retaliation, Pakistan has expelled Indian diplomats, closed its airspace to Indian flights, and suspended trade activities.

Amid this backdrop, Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed stern action, asserting that those responsible for the killings in Jammu and Kashmir would be brought to justice.
