Should You Drink Coffee First Thing in the Morning? This Is What Expets Say

High cortisol, acid reflux, and anxiety risks: Experts recommend delaying coffee by 1.5–2 hours after waking

April 16, 2025: If grabbing a hot cup of coffee is your first move in the morning, you may want to rethink the habit. Why Coffee First Thing May Be Harmful

  • Increases stomach acid: Drinking coffee on an empty stomach can trigger acid reflux and digestive discomfort.

  • Heightens stress & anxiety: For some, coffee early in the day may intensify feelings of stress or unease, particularly when consumed without food.
