Steve Job’s Wife Laurene Visits Kashi Vishwanath Temple Ahead of Maha Kumbh

“Steve Jobs’ wife, renamed ‘Kamala,’ offers prayers in Varanasi and prepares to take part in the grand Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.”

January 12, 2025: Laurene Powell Jobs, wife of late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, visited the renowned Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi on Saturday as part of her spiritual journey in India. Dressed in a traditional Indian outfit with a pink suit and white dupatta, Ms. Laurene offered prayers at the temple before heading to Prayagraj for the upcoming Maha Kumbh Mela, scheduled to begin on January 13.

Ms. Laurene was accompanied by Swami Kailashanand Giri Ji Maharaj of the Niranjani Akhara. In accordance with temple traditions, she offered prayers from outside the sanctum sanctorum, as non-Hindus are not permitted to touch the Shivling.

Swami Kailashanand Giri said, “We prayed for the smooth and successful completion of the Maha Kumbh without any obstacles. Laurene, who has been renamed ‘Kamala,’ followed all the traditions with great respect.”

Ms. Laurene is expected to stay in the Kumbh area and plans to take a holy dip in the Ganges during her visit.


About the Maha Kumbh

The Maha Kumbh Mela, held every 12 years, is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. It will run from January 13 to February 26, 2025, in Prayagraj. The Uttar Pradesh government has taken extensive measures to ensure the safety and convenience of millions of devotees expected to attend.

A 45-minute water laser show, depicting the spiritual and cultural essence of the Maha Kumbh, was inaugurated by the state’s Industrial Development Minister, Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi, at the Yamuna Bank Ghat. The show, prepared at a cost of ₹20 crore, highlights key events related to the grand festival.


Security and Facilities

To manage the massive influx of pilgrims, the UP government has implemented high-tech security measures. These include thousands of AI-powered CCTVs, underwater drones, and modern facilities for devotees. Additionally, electric buses have been deployed to ensure seamless transportation, with more buses expected to arrive in the coming days.
