January 25, 2025: Srinagar: In a landmark moment for Indian Railways, the first trial run of the specially designed Vande Bharat Express was successfully conducted on Saturday, connecting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) to Srinagar. The train traversed the Chenab Bridge, the world’s highest rail bridge, and the Anji Khad Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge.
The trial run began with great enthusiasm, with the train halting briefly at Jammu around 11:30 AM, where it received a warm welcome from locals, before proceeding towards Budgam station. The trial marks a significant step forward in improving connectivity in the Kashmir valley.

Prime Minister to Flag Off Inaugural Journey
The commercial operations of this Vande Bharat Express are expected to commence soon, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi likely to flag off the inaugural journey from Katra. The date for the event is yet to be announced.

- State-of-the-Art Amenities: Fully air-conditioned coaches, automatic plug doors, and mobile charging sockets, ensuring passenger comfort.
A Major Step for USBRL Project
This trial run is a milestone in the completion of the 272-km Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, which aims to connect the Kashmir valley to the Indian Railway network. According to officials, the Vande Bharat Express is not just a train but a symbol of India’s commitment to bridging geographical and economic gaps.
