What Is The Fattah-1 Missile That Iran Has Launched At Israel?
June 18, 2025: Iran hypersonic missiles– The Fattah-1 is Iran’s first domestically developed hypersonic medium-range ballistic missile, unveiled in June 2023 by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Designed to enhance Iran’s deterrence capabilities, the Fattah-1 is reported to have a range of approximately 1,400 kilometers and can reach speeds between Mach 13 and Mach 15, making it significantly faster than traditional missiles. Its high speed and maneuverability are intended to help it evade existing missile defense systems.
The missile is powered by a solid-fuel engine and features a maneuverable warhead, allowing it to adjust its trajectory during flight. While Iran claims the Fattah-1 is capable of carrying nuclear warheads, its primary purpose appears to be as a conventional precision strike weapon.
In October 2024, Iran launched a large-scale missile attack on Israel, reportedly using the Fattah-1 among other missiles. The attack involved hundreds of missiles, including the Fattah-2, Iran’s more advanced hypersonic missile. While many of the incoming missiles were intercepted by Israel’s defense systems, some reportedly breached defenses, causing significant damage in Tel Aviv and other central regions.
The Fattah-1’s introduction marks a significant development in Iran’s missile technology, potentially altering the strategic balance in the region. However, the true effectiveness of the missile remains a subject of international scrutiny and debate.
