Why Iran’s Nuclear Bunkers Could Be Nearly Impossible to Destroy

June 13, 2025: Iran’s nuclear facilities are deeply fortified and strategically engineered to withstand military attacks, making a comprehensive strike by Israel extremely challenging, according to military analysts.

Speaking to CNN, experts highlighted the use of specialized hardened concrete and deep underground locations like the Fordow site, which is buried half a mile below ground.

“The Israelis would have to mount waves and waves of attacks,” said CNN’s military analyst Cedric Leighton, emphasizing the uncertainty around Israel’s bomb capabilities against such reinforced structures.

Further complicating matters, Iran has built intricate tunnel networks with 90-degree turns, said Alex Plitsas of the Atlantic Council. This design hinders the effectiveness of cruise missiles, which lack the agility to navigate such sharp angles.

Trita Parsi of the Quincy Institute concluded, “There’s no evidence that Israel currently has the capacity to effectively destroy these fortified sites.”
