The veteran actress recounts how a late-night ordeal with a stuck pill taught her the value of patience and equanimity.
January 22, 2025: Zeenat Aman’s Instagram has become a treasure trove of wisdom, filled with stories of life lessons and her personal experiences. On Tuesday, the veteran actress shared a harrowing yet insightful tale about a recent near-death experience and the life lesson it imparted.

The incident occurred after a long day of shooting at a studio in Andheri East. As she returned home to her dog Lily and her five cats, Zeenat went through her usual nightly rituals. The ordeal started when she attempted to take her blood pressure medication.

“I popped the pill into my mouth, took a sip of water, and then felt my breath catch. There it was, this little pill lodged in my throat. Too far down to regurgitate and too far up to swallow. I could still breathe, but it was restricted. I took another drink of water, and then another and another, until the glass was empty but the pill remained stuck,” she wrote.
With no one else at home except her pets, panic began to set in. Unable to reach her doctor, she called her son Zahaan Khan, who rushed over to help.
“As I waited for him, the discomfort in my gullet grew. I could think of nothing but that deviant pharmaceutical robbing me of easy breath,” she added.
When Zahaan finally arrived, they managed to contact her doctor, who reassured her that the pill would dissolve over time. “There’s no dramatic ending to this story. Zahaan landed up, we finally got through to the doctor who said it would dissolve in time, and I spent the next few hours sipping warm water and waiting,” she recounted.
Reflecting on the experience, Zeenat shared a valuable life lesson: “Sometimes it’s important to tackle an issue head-on. To confront, challenge, change. But sometimes a situation requires those other softer acts of patience, restraint, and equanimity.”
On the professional front, Zeenat Aman is set to appear in Manish Malhotra’s Bun Tikki and Netflix’s The Royals.
