‘Tumbbad’ Set for Theatrical Re-Release on September 13

Fans of the critically acclaimed horror-thriller Tumbbad have reason to celebrate as the film is set to make a grand return to theaters. Sohum Shah and Aanand L Rai’s masterpiece, which originally captivated audiences in 2018, will be re-released on September 13, 2024.

The exciting news was shared by the makers on Instagram, accompanied by a striking new poster. “Doston, We are arriving!! It’s time for #Tumbbad Experience in cinemas again on 13th September, 2024!” the post read, sparking anticipation among fans eager to relive the haunting tale on the big screen.

The new poster features the film’s protagonist, Vinayak Rao, portrayed by Sohum Shah, navigating through a foreboding night with a lantern in hand, alongside his young son. The image hints at the perilous journey and dangerous quest that form the heart of the story. The looming presence of a shadowy, supernatural figure in the background adds to the eerie atmosphere, promising an unforgettable cinematic experience. The tagline, “Experience in Cinemas 13th Sep, 2024,” underscores the anticipation for the film’s re-release.

Directed by Rahi Anil Barve, with Anand Gandhi as the creative director and Adesh Prasad as the co-director, Tumbbad tells the story of Vinayak Rao’s descent into greed and obsession as he seeks a mythical treasure guarded by the malevolent entity Hastar. The film’s screenplay was penned by Mitesh Shah, Prasad, Barve, and Gandhi, and it was produced by Sohum Shah, Aanand L. Rai, Mukesh Shah, and Amita Shah.

Tumbbad was not only a box office success but also a critical darling, earning eight nominations at the 64th Filmfare Awards and winning three, including Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, and Best Sound Design. The film’s unique blend of horror, mythology, and moral complexity has earned it a special place in Indian cinema, and its re-release offers a new generation of viewers the chance to experience its chilling narrative in theaters.
