AUS vs PAK, 3rd Test: Cummins gets Rizwan after counterattacking knock

After Mohammed Rizwan scored a valiant half-century at the conclusion of the second session of the third Test match between Australia and Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Wednesday, Pat Cummins’ three-wicket haul kept Australia ahead. Pakistan was 199/6 at Tea, with Sajid Khan (7) and Agha Salman (36) undefeated. Pakistan’s captain Shan Masood (32) and Mohammed Rizwan (12) were undefeated as they began the second session at 75/4. After Steve Smith made a catch at slips, Mitchell Marsh took Masood for 35 off 70 balls, marking the Australians’ first wicket of the session. Pakistan was 96/5 and in serious danger.

In 30.1 overs, Pakistan scored 100 runs, thanks to a four from Rizwan off of captain Pat Cummins. Rizwan persisted in his counterattack, hitting Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood with seven fours and a six to reach his ninth fifty in 74 balls during the Test match. Agha Salman, who also took some aggressive shots at Lyon, managed to keep the other end stable. In 61 balls, Rizwan and Salman had reached their 50-run partnership. In 39.5 overs, Pakistan reached the 150-run milestone.

As they persisted in their counterattack, Salman and Rizwan hit at least four or six boundaries every over. With 10 fours and two sixes, Rizwan finished his innings at 88 in 103 balls, just short of a century. Cummins, the captain, secured his third wicket as Hazlewood made the catch. Pakistan had a score of 190/6. Pakistan was led by Agha and Sajid through the rest of the session. Pakistan had won the toss and chosen to bat first. Quick Scores: Pakistan: 199/6 (Pat Cummins 3/40, Agha Salman 36, and Mohammed Rizwan 88).
