BCCI Seeks New Head Coach for India’s Men’s Cricket Team

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially opened the application process for the position of the head coach of India’s men’s national cricket team. The new appointment will commence on July 1, 2023, and extend until December 31, 2027, aligning with the next 50-over Cricket World Cup.

This call for applications follows the extension of the current head coach Rahul Dravid’s tenure until June, after India reached but did not win the ICC Cricket World Cup finals hosted in India last November. Dravid’s contract extension includes the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, which will be held in the West Indies and USA from June 1 to 29.

BCCI stated, “The BCCI on Monday invited applications for the position of Head Coach of the Senior Men’s Team. Applications for the position should be submitted by 6PM IST on May 27, 2024.” The selection process for this pivotal role will involve a comprehensive review of applications, personal interviews, and assessments of the shortlisted candidates.

Criteria outlined by the BCCI for the head coach position include:

  • A minimum experience of playing 30 Test Matches or 50 ODIs, or having been the head coach of a full member Test-playing nation for at least two years.
  • Alternatively, candidates could have been the head coach of an Associate member, an Indian Premier League (IPL) team, or equivalent international league/first-class teams/national A teams for at least three years.
  • Possession of BCCI Level 3 Certification or its equivalent is required.
  • Applicants must be below 60 years of age.

India’s T20 World Cup campaign is set to begin on June 5 against Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York, with further games against Pakistan, USA, and Canada scheduled within the group stage.
