BCCI set to retire Dhoni’s famous No.7 Jersey

BCCI set to retire Dhoni: Vice president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Rajeev Shukla, has praised MS Dhoni’s contribution to Indian cricket and applauded the decision to retire his No. 7 jersey. It was reported earlier on Friday that the BCCI honoured the World Cup-winning captain by retiring Dhoni’s famous No. 7 jersey.

Following the renowned batter Sachin Tendulkar, Dhoni is the second Indian player for whom the BCCI has chosen to retire his jersey. The BCCI retired Tendulkar’s jersey number ten in 2017. Shukla applauded the choice.

“Considering his contribution to Indian cricket, MS Dhoni considers the BCCI’s decision to be an honour. He has made a significant contribution to both Indian and international cricket. This was a wise choice. Shukla told ANI that “No.7, which was linked to him, cannot be diluted…someone else who could have had that number.” In the course of a career spanning more than 15 years, Dhoni made a lasting impression on the cricket community.
Dhoni participated in 90 games during his long-format career, amassing 4,876 runs at an average of 38.09. His highest score was 224, and he amassed six hundreds and thirty-three half-centuries. He currently holds the 14th-highest Test score for India.

He captained India in 60 Test matches:

In those 60 Test matches they triumphed in 27, suffered defeats in 18, and drew 15. He is among India’s most successful skippers of all time, with a win percentage of 45. In the ICC Test Rankings, he guided Team India to the top spot. In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, he is the only Indian captain to have completely destroyed Australia in the 2010–11 and 2012–13 series.

The ODI format was Dhoni’s strongest. He scored 10,773 runs at an average of 50.57 in 350 ODIs. With a best score of 183*, he amassed 10 centuries and 73 fifties for India. He is the fifth-highest scorer for India in One-Day Internationals (ODIs), behind only Sachin Tendulkar (18,426 runs). In addition, he ranks as the 11th most successful batter in ODI history. His statistics are even more impressive when you consider that he came down the order and still managed to score over 10,000 runs at an average of over 50. In 200 ODIs, he captained India; he won 110 and lost 74. With 11 games ending in a draw and five matches ending in a tie, his win percentage is 55.

In addition to being the fifth-highest six-hitter of all time with 229 sixes, he holds the record for the most Indian sixes, second only to Rohit Sharma (275 sixes). Having completed 273 innings, he is also the sixth-fastest player to reach 10,000 ODI runs.
The fan-favorite, “Mahi,” participated in 98 Twenty20 Internationals for India, amassing 1,617 runs at a strike rate of 126.13 and an average of 37.60. His best score in the format is 56, and he has two half-centuries. In 72 Twenty20 international matches, he captained India. They won 41, lost 28, were tied, and two ended in a tie. 56.94 is his win percentage.
