Chennaiyin FC aims to end year on high against Mumbai City FC: ISL 2023-24

When Chennaiyin FC takes on Mumbai City FC on Thursday in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023–24 at the Mumbai Football Arena in Mumbai, they will aim to close the year on a high note. With 12 points overall and a spot in sixth place in the standings, the Marina Machans’ head coach Owen Coyle said they are eager to play Mumbai City because of their shared attacking style of football.

I would like to play Mumbai City because I think it would be a great match. We’re playing against a very talented team, and I always enjoy the atmosphere and stadium they provide for us. Playing against Mumbai City is always a breath of fresh air because of their attacking football style, which fits us because we also play with a forward mindset. Thus, I believe that two very aggressive teams will go all out to win a difficult game “At the press conference held prior to the game, Coyle made this observation.

“Of course, playing Mumbai City will be difficult, but they will understand that we have quality, we have goals in our lineup, and we can be dangerous in any circumstance,” he continued. I have no doubt that we will create a fantastic game.”

In addition, the Scotsman stated that Chennaiyin has shown consistency in the league after three games and that they aim to get better with each subsequent game. “Our first three games were the only things that hurt us,” Coyle said. Ever since, our team has performed consistently. It is understandable that you faced strong teams; however, prior to the Punjab FC match, we had drawn three games that we could have easily won. There was no inconsistency there because we defeated Bengaluru FC. We still made enough of the opportunities we created, even though there is a learning curve.”

Many of the moments we produced had the potential to result in goals. To get there, our team wants to keep trying to get better all around. Naturally, we’re disappointed about the result of our most recent match against Punjab FC, but as I’ve mentioned, given our recent performance, the upcoming game should be exciting,” the head coach continued.

In the 18 ISL matches that Chennaiyin and Mumbai City have played, the two teams have a near identical head-to-head record. Chennaiyin has won six of the matches, while Mumbai City has won nine. Fans may watch the action live on Viacom18 and JioCinema as the match gets underway at 8 p.m. IST.
