Former spinner Harbhajan Singh questioned Yuzvendra Chahal’s selection for the tour on Friday, a day after India revealed their squad for the crucial tour of South Africa, claiming that they gave him a “lollypop to suck on.”
The Men in Blue team for all three formats was announced on Thursday by the selection committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Chahal is a member of the Indian ODI squad for the tour of South Africa.
In a video message posted on his official YouTube channel, Bhajji expressed his confusion over the 33-year-old’s selection for the ODI squad but not the T20I squad.
“Yuzvendra Chahal is not available in T20 format. He was retained for ODIs but not for T20Is. All they gave him to suck on was a lollypop. We’ll accept entries in other formats but not in the one where you perform well. On his YouTube channel, Harbhajan stated, “It’s beyond my understanding.”
As for the Proteas tour, the former spinner predicted that it would be difficult for the batters and difficult for the Indian players because the ‘Men in Blue’ would not be playing with Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane.
“The tour of South Africa is not easy. It is difficult for hitters. Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara won’t be present there. It’s true that youth are receiving opportunities. It’s advantageous.
However, I don’t believe that Umesh Yadav, Pujara, or Rahane had a conversation with the selectors because Yadav has always performed when he has played in Test matches, he continued.
However, Chahal posted, “Here we go AGAIN!” on his official social media account after being named to the ODI squad.
On December 10 at Kingsmead Stadium, a three-match Twenty20 International match will kick off the tour. The St George’s Oval will host the second Twenty20 International on December 12. At the Wanderers Stadium on December 14, the 20-over format will come to an end.
The Wanderers Stadium will host the 50-over match on December 17. December 19 and December 21 will be the dates of the second and final ODIs, respectively.
