In the Indian Super League (ISL) game on Friday at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati, Mohun Bagan Super Giants defeated Northeast United 3-1. Phalguni Singh was the recipient of a headed pass from Highlanders midfielder Jithin MS in the fourth minute of play. With courage, Phalguni attempted a shot from outside the box, curling the ball into the upper right corner to immediately enthuse the home crowd.
They were awarded a free kick on the left flank by Liston Colaco, and in the fourteenth minute, Deepak Tangri, the attacking midfielder, was in a good position to meet the ball and head the equaliser for the opposition. After the equaliser, the team from Kolkata took control of the match, with players from the back to the front trying to score for NorthEast United FC. Anirudh Thapa and Kiyan Nassiri teamed up so that the former could fire a long-range shot.
At last, in the 44th minute, after numerous aerial duels throughout the day, Sadiku leaped and brought down the ball for Cummings to attempt a shot. In the 28th minute of play, the Australian striker gave the visitors the lead with a close-range tap-in.
With players like Colaco, Hugo Boumous, and Manvir Singh on the attack, Mohun Bagan Super Giant never really let Northeast United recover from that goal. The visitors were able to maintain control of the game in large part because of the introduction of Boumous and Manvir in the 61st minute. Subhasish Bose scored the game’s final goal in the 71st minute, latching onto a cross from Colaco and drilling the ball into the lower right corner from the left side of the 18-yard box. Mohun Bagan SG defeated Northeast United 3-1 at the end of the game.
