Pakistan, led by Shan Massod, has been penalised for continuing to overrate slowly in the first Test match against Australia, which took place in Perth on December 14. In addition to two ICC World Test Championship (WTC) points being deducted from their total, they were fined 10% of their match fee. Prior to Australia’s first Test match, Pakistan was leading the WTC 2025 points standings. Nevertheless, they have fallen to second position following the 360-run defeat to the Australians, and the penalty has caused their percentage points to decrease from 66.67 to 61.11.
As per the provisions of Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, cricket players who fail to bowl in the allotted time for an over will be fined five percent of their match fee.
Article 16.11.2 of the ICC World Test Championship stipulates that a side loses one point for every over in which Pakistan is short, with two points being subtracted from their total score.
After taking time allowances into account, the ICC Elite Panel Match Referee Javagal Srinath imposed the sanctions after concluding that Pakistan was two overs short.
The Pakistani captain Shan Masood entered a guilty plea and accepted the penalties after the charges were brought by on-field umpires Joel Wilson and Richard Illingworth, third umpire Michael Gough, and fourth umpire Donovan Koch. At Melbourne Cricket Ground, Pakistan and Australia’s second Test match is scheduled to begin on December 26 and conclude on December 30.
