Venue for IND-PAK T20 World Cup clash expected to be ready in three months

Within three months, Nassau County International Cricket Stadium—which will play host to the much awaited Twenty20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan—should be completed. The T20 World Cup matches that will take place in New York City have been announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The contest between the rival cricket teams is set to take place on June 9 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, which has the capacity to hold 34,000 spectators. This encounter is one of eight T20 World Cup matchups.

The ICC revealed information about the newest cricket ground in the world, stating that the recently installed cricket pitch and arena is the world’s first modular stadium. “A variety of seating options, such as VIP and hospitality suites, premium and general admission, a special party deck, and cabanas, will be available at the stadium.” This project is centered around sustainability. A post on the official ICC X account stated, “The grandstands, which were formerly used for the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, are being repurposed for the T20 World Cup venue.”

The testing phase is expected to start the week of May 13, according to Chris Tetley, head of events at ICC. Before the World Cup matches begin on June 3, this phase will feature warm-up matches to provide the organizers a better idea of the location. “Warm-up games will be held at the facility (New York) so that we may observe how the cricket ground functions. Importantly, we will also understand from an operational standpoint how all of the functional teams working together to manage the stadium must communicate with attendees as they pass through the turnstiles on event days,” Tetley was cited by ESPNcricinfo.

Understanding how people use the venue, where they go after going through the turnstiles, and where they stroll is part of it. Because that will then assist us modify ideas on spectator flows and where we need additional signage, where people get confused, where do they congregate?” Tetley continued. A drop-in surface that resembles those at Adelaide Oval and Eden Park is presently being developed in Florida, according to ICC. Early in May, the pitch will be shipped to New York. Adelaide Oval Turf Solutions, led by Adelaide Oval’s lead groundsperson, Damian Hough, is preparing a series of drop-in pitches in Florida.

“In addition to testing events that gives us a lot of reassurance is the quality of the people involved and the quality of the work that they do day in, day out: from Damian (Hough) on the pitches and the number of pitches he’s building, which gives us a bit of flex in case one of the pitches doesn’t go as well as we want, we can shift around so that we’re not reliant on you know, a no latency solution there,” Tetley stated. “LandTek and Damian are collaborating closely on every agronomic aspect of the project. They are the ones that we are most concerned about making sure are of the highest caliber from a cricket standpoint, since that is essential, Tetley continued.
